Debtors Anonymous: A Twelve Step Program for People in Debt

Debtors Anonymous is an organization that tries to help individuals get out of debt and stop incurring new debt. This is an organization that has some solid ideas and fundamentals that they try to teach individuals. Here are the basics of Debtors Anonymous and how they help people with debt.

Debtors Anonymous

Debtors Anonymous is a private organization that is not affiliated with any other institutions or denominations. In order to become a member of Debtors Anonymous you only have to have a strong desire to stop incurring debt. In order to join, you will not have to pay any membership fees or dues.

As part of this program, members will learn many different concepts that will help them eliminate their debt problem. You will have to learn 12 different steps in order to successfully complete the program.

The first step of the program is to admit that you are powerless to debt. This is basically realizing that you have a problem that you need to deal with. The second step of the program is believing that a Power that is greater than yourself can help you overcome this problem. The third step involves turning your life over to God. The fourth step involves doing a moral inventory of yourself to determine what type of person you are.

At this point, you will then have to admit to God, to yourself, and to other individuals what you have done wrong in regards to debt. The next step involves being ready for God to remove these problems. Then in step 7, you will ask God to remove your shortcomings. The next two steps involve making a list of all of the people that you have harmed and then making amends with them. At that point, you will continue to take personal inventory and admit when you are wrong. Then you will continue to pray and seek a closer relationship with God. You will then need to provide this knowledge to other individuals that have problems with compulsive debt.

In order to learn all of these steps and go through the process, you will need to attend local meetings. Debtors Anonymous is an organization that is nationwide. You should be able to find a meeting to go to in many different areas. If you are unable to locate a meeting, it is possible to start a meeting with other debtors.

Helping People With Debt

Although it may seem unorthodox, this system has helped many people overcome debt issues in their life. One of the most powerful parts of the process is to admit that you have a problem and that you are willing to do something about it. Many people are unwilling to admit when they have a debt problem and continue to accrue debt frequently. This program will take you by the hand with the help of other individuals and walk you through the process of eliminating debt.
