Step-by-Step: Applying for a Home Grant

The Department of Housing and Development provides various home grants to eligible individuals. There are four major steps involve when you want to apply for this program.

Home Grant Search

The first thing you need to do is find for home grand opportunities at the website.

  1. Go to the website and click the "find grant opportunities" button. There are five options to search a home grant funding. If you do not know the Funding Opportunity Number (FON) or the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance Number, click either the "browse by category" or "browse by agency" button.

  2. If you search by category, click the "housing" link. If you want to look using the agency click the "Department of Housing and Urban Development." A list of opportunity titles are displayed on the screen.

  3. Find the home grant you want to apply on the list. On a piece of paper, write the FON located on the left side of the list. You will need this number when you submit your application online.

Registration Process

You need to be a registered number in able to apply for a home grant. Here are the steps to register:

  1. On the same website, click the "get registered" button.

  2. Select "individual registration." Read the information thoroughly, then click "register with"

  3. Type the FON on the blank field provided and then click "register."

  4. You will be directed to an electronic form that asks your personal basic information. Fill out and complete the required information. Provide a secret question and it's answer on the blank spaces provided (this will be use to retrieve your information if you forget your username or password). Make a username and password.

  5. Click "submit." A confirmation notice appears on your screen once the registration is completed. You will also received an email informing your eligibility to apply for a home grant.

Application Process

After you are officially registered on the website, you can already submit your application. Here's how:

  1. Click the "apply for grants" located on the right side of the website.

  2. Click the "download a grant application package." Make sure that you have an Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat Professional software installed on your computer.

  3. Type the FON on the blank field, then click "download package."

  4. When the download is completed, choose a filename and save the package on your computer's hard drive.

  5. Fill out and complete the forms with the required information. You can save the file even if you have not completed it yet. When you save an incomplete data, an error message pops. Click "yes" to the "file overwrite" window. The error message serves as a reminder that you have not completed the form. It does not affect the data you filled out and saved.

  6. For the "mandatory documents" field, click "SS-224" form first.

  7. Click the "=>" symbol to move the form to the "mandatory documents for submission" field.

  8. Click "open form" and fill out the required data. Do the same steps with other mandatory documents.

  9. To attach the required documents from your computer, click the "attachment" button/s.

  10. Click the "check package for errors" button on the top left corner of the form to check if you have missed a required field. An error message pops which field are incomplete if there's any. Provide what is missing. A "validation passed" window appears when you have supplied all required information.

  11. Click "save."

  12. Click the "save & submit" button when completed. You will be connected to the grant's website and will be required to click the "save & submit" button once again.

  13. A login window appears. Provide the username and password you obtained during registration. You will receive a confirmation email after two business days from submission of the application.

Tracking the Application's Status

To know the status of your home grant application, you can check it online by following these simple steps:

  1. Go to the website and click the "applicant login" button.

  2. Enter your username and password.

  3. To view the status of your application look on the top left corner of the link and click the "check application status" button.
