Can You Pay Federal Income Tax By Phone?

Individuals and businesses within the United States can pay federal income tax by phone.

If you wish to pay federal income tax using the telephone, you must first enroll in the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS). You will need to have your social security number or employer identification number handy. You will be assigned a PIN and temporary internet password, which will be sent to you in the mail.

You can register online at https://www.eftps.gov or by calling 1-800-982-3526 to obtain an internet password. Simply follow the enrollment instructions. If you need help, you can call for assistance at 1-800-555-8778. Once you are enrolled, you will be able to make tax payments at any time using the phone or the internet.

To make a payment, call the appropriate federal income tax phone number:

  • 1-800-555-4477 (for business payments)
  • 1-800-316-6541 (for individual payments)
  • 1-800-733-4829 (TDD Hearing-Impaired)
  • 1-800-244-4829 (Espanol)
  • 1-800-555-8778 (EFTPS Internet)

Be sure to initiate you payments at least one full business day before they are due to make certain that the payments are cleared on time.
